In front of a global media audience and tens of thousands of visitors the 2010 Open Golf Championship at St Andrews gave Fife centre stage and a unique opportunity to proclaim the region as a great place to live, work, visit and invest.
In the Welcome to Fife Pavilion at the heart of the spectators’ tented village at The Old Course, Fife Council and its partners seized the chance to promote Fife and roll-out the Fife identity to a watching world through a combination
of displays, promotions and demonstrations.
Joining VIPs and stakeholders from across the area to give their whole-hearted
support to the Fife message were two of Fife’s most celebrated ambassadors.
Hollywood actor and local hero Dougray Scott told an audience at the Pavilion, “I am a huge fan. I love Fife.
“The journey across the Bridges is fantastic and coming home to Fife brings me a serenity and a calmness like nowhere else.”
Joining Dougray at the Promoting Fife event was Dunfermline Athletic legend
Jim Leishman, who shares the actor’s enthusiasm for Fife.
“As a passionate Fifer I am extremely proud to call Fife home. The Open and the Welcome to Fife Pavilion are fantastic for Fife and will show the rest of the world what a great place Fife is and what Fife has to offer.”
The marketing activities at the Pavilion during the week-long event were designed to deliver tangible commercial benefi ts to Fife businesses as well as exposing the Fife competitive identity to a global audience.
It will translate to benefi ts for the local economy as a whole, a point that Leader of Fife Council’s Administration, Councillor Peter Grant, was keen to underline. “The Open is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious sporting events.
“As well as a boost to our tourism industry and economy, The Open shines an international spotlight on Fife providing a fantastic opportunity to show the world what the region is capable of and all that it has to offer.”
