UK first for Carnegie

Carnegie College has announced that it will pilot the delivery of the UK’s fi rst Wind Turbine Service Technician Apprenticeship on behalf of RenewableUK, the trade association for wind and marine energy.

Announcing the project College Principal Professor Bill McIntosh said, “Bringing this award to Scotland for delivery under our Scottish Modern Apprenticeship is a signifi cant step for the potential growth of this industry in Scotland. The economic and employment opportunities are vast, with recent figures estimating that as many as 60,000 extra jobs could be created across Scotland.”

The new apprenticeship will be delivered by the College on behalf of two of the sector’s leading businesses, Siemens Wind Power UK and REpowerUK.

Lorraine Hubbard, Training Development Officer UK with Siemens, paid tribute to the College. “Working closely with Carnegie will ensure our investment in the new Wind Modern Apprenticeship programme will produce, technically profi cient and well qualified apprentices who will go on to become the next second and third generation engineers of the future.”.
