The new biomass facility at the Tullis Russell paper mill at Markinch, Fife is one of the UK’s flagship renewable projects supported by a £200 million investment from RWE npower renewables.
The energy company’s vision brings technical expertise, research and innovation to a facility which will reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 250,000 tonnes a year.
In addition to its environmental benefi ts, RWE npower renewables’ investment has helped safeguard more than 500 jobs at the Markinch paper mill, is creating up to 400 jobs during the construction phase and will create over 50 new positions in the future operation of the power plant and its new biomass fuel processing facility.
Furthermore the multi-million-pound development will provide inspiration for businesses across Fife as it provides a new standard for successful partnership working.
The close relationship forged between RWE npower renewables and Tullis Russell brings together two dynamic companies from diverse industries - one at the cutting edge of renewable technology, one traditional with expertise
spanning two centuries - with spin-offs that benefi t both companies, the Fife economy and the region as a whole.
The partnership extends to the public sector where the active involvement of Fife Council and an additional £8.1 million funding from the Scottish Government is helping to deliver the ground-breaking development at Tullis Russell.
For businesses across Fife sustainability is becoming an increasingly high priority. The need to work with others and collaborate with partners that can bring in expertise and experience, as demonstrated by the Markinch Biomass
